Kirsten Dunst's Relationship With Garrett Hedlund "Just Works," Actor Says

       

            

This is why it works!Garrett Hedlund recently told BBC that respect is the key to his relationship with his girlfriend of two years,Kirsten Dunst.

Speaking with BBC at the L.A. premiere ofLullaby on Tuesday, May 6, the actor said he was bummed to miss Monday night's star-studded Met Gala in NYC, which his girlfriend attended solo. There, Dunst danced the night away with Shailene Woodley and Rodarte designers Kate andLaura Mulleavy.

The actor will, however, have his lady right beside him while filmingPan in England all summer. A source inside the Met Ball told BBC, "Kirsten said she's been in London a lot with Garrett while he's filming." Added the insider, "She said she's been playing housewife. She's been cooking and hanging out with him."

(Dunst, as recalled, incited controversy last month after she made controversial gender role comments. "I'm sorry. You need a man to be a man, and a woman to be a woman," she told Harper's Bazaar UK in its May 2014 issue. "That's how relationships work.")

The Melancholia star and Hedlund made their first official appearance together as a couple in January 2012. When asked by BBC in his most recent interview, what makes his relationship with Dunst work, Hedlund responded, "It just works."

"I think it's respect," he explained.
