Chris Hemsworth, Cheryl Boone Isaacs To Announce Oscar Nominations
Chris Hemsworth, an actor whose films tend to show up at the Academy Awards only in categories like Best Visual Effects, will join AMPAS president Cheryl Boone Isaacs to reveal the 2013 Oscar nominations next Thursday morning, the Academy announced Friday.
The booking returns to the tradition that finds the Academy president announcing nominations with a star. Last year, then-president Hawk Koch handed the duties off to Oscar host Seth MacFarlane, who turned the usually straightforward announcement into a comedy routine, and to actress Emma Stone.
Hemsworth’s films include “Thor,” “The Avengers,” “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Star Trek,” but he also starred this year as racing driver James Hunt in Ron Howard’s well-received drama “Rush.”
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who was elected Academy president last summer, is the third woman and first African-American to serve in the position.
The nominations will be announced at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Thursday morning at 5:38 a.m. The Oscars will be held on March 2.
