Bye-Bye, Blondie! Taylor Swift Goes Dark for ‘The Giver’

Taylor Swift is taking a dark turn for her role in "The Giver" — at least when it comes to her hair.
The 23-year-old singing superstar is once again trying her hand at the big screen and the role — playing The Giver's daughter in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry's Newbery Medal-winning young adult novel — necessitated a makeover. Gone are her signature blond locks, which her fans see bopping all over the stage as she belts out her hits songs, and instead she has a mousy brunette 'do.
Swift was snapped with her shoulder-length curly new look on the Cape Town, South Africa, set of the film Sunday. However, while out to dinner that night with co-stars Alexander Skarsgård and Katie Holmes, she was back to her dirty blond hue, making it obvious she's working a wig for the movie.
While the Nashville resident's songs have appeared in many movies (like "Safe & Sound" in "The Hunger Games"), her acting credits are pretty limited. In addition to lending her voice to "The Lorax," she has appeared in just one movie — opposite Taylor Launter in "Valentine's Day." (She's also had bit parts on TV's "CSI" and "New Girl.")
In was announced in late September that she had been added to the cast of "The Giver," which also stars Meryl StreepJeff Bridges, and Australian actor Brenton Thwaites. In the fantasy-drama, Thwaites plays a young boy selected for life service as the Receiver of Memories. The Giver (played by Bridges) teaches him to use his sensory gifts.
Swift plays Bridges's daughter, Rosemary. In the book she's described as "a girl with pale eyes," who, a decade earlier, failed in her training to become the Receiver of Memories and asked to be released from the job.
In an interview with ABC News Radio, she said the role came about unexpectedly.
"When I played my shows in L.A., I was unaware that people from this movie were in the audience, and I had a role offered to me the next week," said Swift, who recently ended her Red tour. "I think my shows tend to be very emotional and moody and they saw something they needed in that role. So, I’m very honored and lucky to get to be a part of it, and we’ll see how it goes."
She ended with, "Please wish me luck."
We'll see how she did when the movie — and her chocolate hair color — hit theaters in August 2014.
