Britney Spears's dad is looking out for his little girl.
The 31-year-old star opens up about her boyfriend, David Lucado, in a new interview … and it sounds pretty serious!
"I'm in love," the singer, who is gearing up for her Las Vegas residency, told "Entertainment Tonight" about the fella she started dating earlier this year after meeting through friends. "I adore him."
The mom of two — who traveled to the Virginia native's hometown to meet his family in September — went on to describe her favorite qualities in her new beau.
"He's just a simple man," Britney said of Lucado, who worked at a car wash in high school before getting into the insurance business and then landing a position at a legal firm in L.A. "He's really funny and he's really passionate. I love the fact that anything he's involved in, he's passionate about and it's contagious."
Passionate, funny ... and a little hardheaded, though in an endearing way. "I like the fact that [he's] very stubborn and he's stuck in his ways," she added.
Lucado, who has accompanied Britney everywhere from her sons' soccer games to Sunday church services (he's often sporting Virginia Tech Hokies gear), also passed muster with Britney's father, Jamie Spears — though not without a little investigating. The senior Spears, who has been the superstar's conservator since her 2008 breakdown, ran a background check on Lucado to make sure he was on the up-and-up.
"My dad's a little crazy like that," said Britney, who in addition to being named the top-earning woman in music for 2012 by Forbes magazine will reportedly rake in $30 million for her two-year residency at Planet Hollywood.
In fairness, her father has watched her make some bad decisions in the romance department. In addition to that murky period where she was dating the paparazzo, she's been married twice and ended her engagement to talent agent Jason Trawick in January. Trawick, 42, has also moved on — he's now dating 23-year-old "Hunger Games" actress Leven Rambin. As for Kevin Federline, with whom Britney has two sons (Sean, 8, and Jayden, 7), he married his longtime girlfriend, Victoria Prince, in August, and said he gets along just fine with Lucado.
"Everybody’s moved on," K-Fed told TMZ when asked about Britney's new beau. "We gotta support the kids in what they want to do. He's a cool guy.
" In the interview with "Entertainment Tonight," which airs Tuesday night, Britney also said she'd like to give her sons siblings, but admitted she's unsure if she will ever say "I do" again. And she's looking forward to her Vegas show because it will curtail her crazy schedule for a little bit.
"I've done two tours in the past three years and it's so grueling being on the road and staying in a different bed every night, the schedule is insane," she said. "I just thought it would be ideal to have one place that I could go to and I could just travel back and forth to my home and [Las Vegas] and to have a show."
