Mariah Carey, Janelle Monae, Jennifer Hudson to Perform at BET Honors
Mariah Carey, Janelle Monae and Jennifer Hudson will take the stage at this year's BET Honors, set to air on the network February 24th at 9 p.m., Billboard reports.
This year's honorees include Aretha Franklin, Ice Cube, Motown founder Berry Gordy, American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault and visual artist Carrie Mae Weems. Since 2008, BET Honors has celebrated the achievements of African Americans in the arts, entertainment, business, athletics, public service and education.
The show will be taped Saturday at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C. and will feature Tamar Braxton, Smokey Robinson and Wayne Brady, the latter doing double duty as host. Presenters for this year's celebration include Ludacris and Mack Wilds, Scandal star Joe Morton and activist and talk show host Rev. Al Sharpton.
Late last year, Carey released "The Art of Letting Go," the latest single from her long-delayed new album of the same name, following up "#Beautiful," her collaboration with Miguel. The album – Carey's first with new material since 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel – still has no official release date but is currently scheduled to hit shelves this spring.
Rising R&B star Monae has been busy since the release of her second LP, Electric Lady, last fall. While she had to postpone select tour dates to rest her voice, Monae still made time to take the Saturday Night Live stage and hit the clubs with Miguel in the video for "PrimeTime.
" Amidst her various turns on film and TV, Hudson has been prepping a new album, the follow-up to 2011's I Remember Me. During a recent chat with Rolling Stone the Academy Award winner said she couldn't reveal a release date or title, but said: "I do know that I want to Jennifer-ize this album, meaning I want you to get a sense of who I am as a person, not just as a celebrity, or a brand, or a public figure that’s what I want this music to reflect."
