'Great, Another Star Glamourising Bulimia!' Demi Lovato Slams Lady Gaga's SXSW Vomit Stunt

Demi Lovato doesn’t think Lady Gaga’s controversial performance at South by Southwest was “cool or artsy” at all.

The 21-year-old singer isn’t impressed with her colleague’s Thursday night gig at Stubb’s in Austin, Texas. Gaga entered the stage on a giant spitroast after a performance artist spent a few minutes eating meat and pouring barbecue sauce all over herself. Later on the Applause songstress was puked on by Millie Brown, a woman who calls herself the “vomit painter”.

Demi has long been vocal about her struggle with drugs, self-harm and eating disorders, and she believes Gaga’s show reinforces negativity.
Demi wrote on Twitter: “Sad... As if we didn't have enough people glamorizing eat disorders already. Bottom line, it's not ‘cool’ or ‘artsy’ at all. (sic)”
In response to a follower’s comment, she then went on to describe her stance on pop artists’ cultural responsibility.
“All I'm saying is, artists in pop culture have influence on people.. Some of which are people who aren't capable of understanding the art that is that is expressed by their idols,” Demi explained.
“Young people who are struggling to figure out their identities are seriously influenced by the things they see their idols do. Whether we intend to or not, artists influence people of ALL ages and unfortunately what people see, people do. Hair, clothes and sometimes misinterpreting things, therefore using the excuse of art to engage in self-destructive behaviors.”
Lady Gaga's SXSW performance was put on for an intimate audience of around 2,000
Demi ended the debate with an acknowledgement for Lady Gaga’s artistry, writing: “Ps. I'm still a little monster myself.”
