One Year After the Boston Marathon Bombing, This Couple Has a Happy Ending

Pete DiMartino and Rebekah Gregory are one of Ellen's favorite couples who have appeared on the show. The pair spoke with the host last October after getting engaged six months after surviving the Boston Marathon bombing. On April 4 -- nearly a year after the attack -- Pete and Rebekah tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony.
The two were picked to receive a dream wedding, compliments of wedding website The Knot. The ceremony and reception took place at The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Pete and Rebekeh were joined by 110 family members and friends, as well as countless well-wishers watching the live-stream of the festivities on The Knot's website.
"This is amazing to have everybody that we love here and to be able to share our wedding and our relationship and our struggles with so many people," said Rebekeh to her guests. "I can't tell you what the last year of having everyone with us has meant, because we truly couldn't have gotten through it without you guys."
The Groom's cake at Rebekah and Pete's reception paid tribute to their love of Boston. "For the first time today, I was able to walk down the aisle, and that's something I haven't done in a year now," she continues, tearing up. "We have a long recovery to go, but with the people who are here in this room, we can do it. I'm so excited to celebrate, and I love this man so much."
On April 15, 2013, the two were visiting Boston for Rebekah's birthday and to see Pete's mother run in the Boston Marathon. They were less than ten feet away from the first bomb. Rebekah was able to shield her young son Noah and protect him from being hurt, but she and Pete were not as lucky.
Pete suffered severe foot and ankle injuries, broken bones and a ruptured eardrum. Rebekah spent 65 days in the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries. She still faces the possibility of losing her left leg.
"Walking down the aisle would be a dream come true, because I would be walking down the aisle to my best friend," Rebekah told the Good News last fall. "But to actually walk after everything that's happened, it would just be amazing."
We're so happy that Rebekah and Pete had the wedding of their dreams! Watch highlights from this amazing couple's special day.
