It's been about a year since Melanie Griffith filed for divorce from Antonio Banderas, her husband of 18 years. But fortunately, the two were able to set aside any bad blood to attend their daughter Stella's high school graduation together.
Griffith shared a couple of photos from the event on Instagram, including one of herself and Banderas sandwiching their only daughter. (Griffith has two other children from previous marriages.) "Mama, Stella and Papi," accompanied the pic. "Our angel is amazing. Beginning the next chapter of her life! Freedom!!"
In a separate photo just of herself and Stella, Griffith wrote, "Stella and Mama at Graduation luncheon. #proudmama." She also shared an image of just Stella and Antonio at the celebration, calling the shot, "So sweet!!!"
While all parties were in good spirits, the scars from the divorce were still, quite literally, fresh. Griffith wore a band-aid on her right arm, as she's been doing of late. It's not some Nelly-style fashion statement, but rather it's to cover up a tattoo that previously bore Antonio Banderas's name surrounded by a heart.
Griffith has been in the process of having the tattoo removed for the past year, since she and Banderas announced they'd be divorcing "in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other."
The two are sticking to their commitment to continue to respect each other. Though both rarely give interviews these days, Banderas said that he "will always love" his soon-to-be ex-wife back in January.
"I admire and respect Melanie first and foremost as a great actress," Banderas said during an appearance on Spain's El Hormiguero while promoting his movie Autómata. "I have always said that. That's why she is in the movie. And she's also the person that I loved, that I love, and will always love."
Since the split, Antonio Banderas has been dating Dutch investment consultant Nicole Kimpel. The two walked the red carpet together last month at Cannes's amfAR Gala.
If we're to glean anything from her Instagram account, it's that Griffith has been focusing on her children: Alexander Bauer, 29, from her marriage to Steven Bauer; Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson, 25, from her marriage to Don Johnson; and, of course, Stella.
Sunday night, following Stella's graduation luncheon, Griffith Instagrammed a photo of herself with all three kids. "Me and my fabulous kids," she wrote. "My joy, my heart, my life is theirs."
