Who needs gifts made of wood? Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams proved they're a modern couple — by shirking the traditional and celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary with a throwback '50s prom.

On Saturday, guests, who included famous friends like Minka Kelly, gathered at The American Legion Post in Los Angeles to mix, mingle, and, of course, mug for some pretty money party pics.

Minka posted one such snap that featured the girls — decked out in classic prom wear — posing in front of shiny blue streamers.

Mandy certainly looked like the belle of the ball in a sparkly black tulle gown. And while we have to admit that the "props," which ranged from sombreros (go Mandy!) to Viking hats to a polka-dot clown bowtie, aren't decidedly '50s per se, the ladies made it work.

Mandy later reposted this shot beneath a pic of her hubby and his friends.

As you can see, the guys got in on the camera action too, but they didn't embrace the theme (or the photo props) as much. Still, we have to give Ryan a shout out for mastering that smoldering glare. That almost makes up for the fact that he's not wearing any crazy accessories. Almost.

Former Stray Cats star Slim Jim Phantom and his band performed hillbilly rock tunes, which all but guarantees that this well-heeled crew danced the night away, sombreros and all.

Technically speaking, the celebration came five days after the fifth anniversary of Mandy and Ryan's actual big day. They originally tied the knot on March 10, 2009, less than one month after breaking the news that they were engaged.

Mandy marked the occasion of their real five-year milestone with a photo of their marriage license.

As of now, Mandy, 29, and Ryan, 39, have no kids, but (as evidenced by Mandy's Instagram) they still have a full house thanks to their adopted dog, Joni, and two rescue cats, Vincent and Theo. And while the music power couple seems to be enjoying her "animal children" for the time being, maybe by their sixth anniversary they'll be singing a different tune.

Then again, maybe they'll just throw another amazing bash… and that wouldn't be so bad either.
