Taylor Swift donned a bitty, midriff-baring coral orange bandeaux top and long magenta skirt with a sexy front reveal to walk the Grammys red carpet Monday, joined by squadie Selena Gomez in full-on glittery sapphire blue with tiny straps and side cutouts.
With minutes to go before showtime, Lady Gaga surfaced in an ode to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, towering high red sandals and bright red hair with blue makeup and dreamy swirls on a long, tuxedo-style dressed cut high to reveal a little sexy lace underneath.
Swift's Atelier Versace look opened to form-hugging bloomers of the same pink hue as her bestie's blue Calvin Klein included a train and an open back. Swift went for a short straight bob with bangs across her forehead while Gomez rocked loose waves.
"I wanted something that was simple and felt like what I would do if I was going on a date," Gomez said, "and this is what I would do and my date is Taylor Swift."
While music's big night is known for out-of-the-box fashions, some Grammy newcomers were more subdued.
Tori Kelly wore a stunning emerald one-shoulder gown, her long hair in carefully crafted waves swept back on one side. Fellow nominee Ashley Monroe also represented in green, a teal with a peekaboo cutout at the chest. Also in emerald: Andra Day, complete with a white fur stole that matched the fur on her sandals.
Kelly, up for best new artist, wore Gauri and Nainika, and Monroe donned Georges Hobeika. Both had loose, large flowing pieces.
"I like having little wings to play with," Monroe said of her look.
Nominee Elle King left her arm tattoos partially on display in a custom black lace Christian Siriano that hugged her figure, as did Kelly's tight bodice with the wide strap that that crossed in a diagonal at the chest.
"It makes me feel like a million bucks," King said.
Carrie Underwood also chose black — a long elegant strapless gown with a high side slit, her hair in a straight, back-swept bob. She and her husband, Mike Fisher, helped design her necklace with friend and jeweler Johnathon Arndt. It had Burmese rubies and a yellow diamond and had a name: "The Heartbeat," in honor of her new hit song, "Heartbeat." In all, 48 carats of precious stones were included.
In the wild department, Jacqueline Van Bierk was winged and caped in black with petals that appeared to be a barely there moment but wasn't. Sheer panels created the effect. Joy Villa, known for crazy looks, offered up the real thing, a tiny thong under a fierce look of blue steel armor — or an outer skeleton, depending on one's mood.
The one-name singer Cam offered a pop of sunshine, in a bright yellow strapless George Chakra with full ruffles at the bottom, her hair a lively tangle of curls.
Purple reigned on Kacey Musgraves, dressed in a textured strapless ombre gown tight at the bodice and bulkier below the waist.
Ellie Goulding showed up in a soft pink with a chain effect at the back, in contrast to some of the bold color statements of the evening. Serayah McNeill also went for a soft color, a dove grey one-shoulder draped gown with cutouts at the front and at one leg, thanks to Vera Wang.
Speaking of leg slits, Ciara's went alllllll the way up one of hers in a gown that contrasted a print and solid color, side by side.
A pregnant Chrissy Teigen, meanwhile, showed off her growing bump in white with an embellished cape effect.
Justin Bieber had his little brother in tow. The two clowned on the carpet, Bieber dressed in white coat and black trousers, shirt and bow tie.
Is red passe? Don't tell Ariana Grande, dressed in a bold shade from Romona Keveza.
